Sorting

By default, missionaries will be sorted by the last word in the title, assuming that it is their last name. If you want to change the sort order, you can use the orderby and order shortcode paramaters.

order accepts only ASC and DESC for “ascending” and “descending” respectively.

orderby accepts any of the standard WordPress orderbyparameters. The most common probably would include menu_order(set in the “Post Attributes” box on each missionary’s edit screen), title, date, or modified.

Example: to sort missionaries by the “Post Attributes” order, first you would change the number on each missionary to the desired order (0 will always be listed before any others) and then modify the shortcode like this: [missionary_map orderby="menu_order"]

Example: to sort missionaries by the title field in reverse: [missionary_map orderby="title" order="DESC"]

Categories

By default, all missionaries are shown wherever a shortcode is used. If you want to show only missionaries from certain fields, ministry types, or categories, use these shortcode parameters.

field_of_service corresponds to the name (including spaces) of the field of service. Example: [missionary_map field_of_service="United States"]

ministry_type corresponds to the name (including spaces) of the ministry type. Example: [missionary_map ministry_type="Prison Ministry"]

missionary_category corresponds to the name (including spaces) of the missionary category. Example: [missionary_map missionary_category="Category 1"]

If you use multiple category parameters, it will include only missionaries in all the matching categories (using the examples above, [missionary_map field_of_service="United States" ministry_type="Prison Ministry"] would include only US-based missionaries who also have the “Prison Ministry” ministry type).

You can also combine these and the order/orderby paramaters above. Example: [missionary_map field_of_service="United States" orderby="date"]
